Microbial Technology
Microbial biotechnology is a particularly dynamic and interesting sector of the biomedical sciences that is unique in the breath and variety of products and services it provides/will provide and to which it offers, such as disease interception and therapy, diagnostics, agriculture, and horticulture, food provision.
Applications of Microbiology:
- Microbiology is one of the foremost applied branches of science. Its excellent applications in the field of food microbiology, medical microbiology, industrial microbiology, soil microbiology, water and wastewater microbiology, microbial technology, extraction of minerals, and environmental microbiology including the application of microorganisms as biosensors are given below.
- It gives us information about different types of microorganisms allowing us to understand their composition and functions; identifications and differentiation; their classifications; nomenclatures, requirements regarding their nutrition; their isolation and purification; as plant and human pathogens; to derive phylogenetic relationships and to understand the origin of life itself.
- Microorganisms are used in the production of a huge number of, fermented foods such as leavened bread, sourdough bread, fermented milk products, and flavors. The fermented milk products are yogurt, cheese, and a number of other products.
- Beer, vinegar, tempeh, soya sauce, rice wine too are fermented products.
Uses:
Microbial products also are used as animal feed. Microorganisms are used in the generation of a large number of fermented foods such as leavened bread, sourdough bread, fermented milk products, and flavors. The fermented milk products are yogurt, cheese, and a number of other products.
