In particular, activities catalysed by group 8–11 metals have experienced rapid progress in the recent decade when it comes to the production of C–C bonds through addition reactions through carbometallation. Today, important substrates like carbo- and heterocycles may be securely programmed from inter- and intramolecular events as well as sequences combining both. When imidazole was deprotonated with potassium t-butoxide in liquid ammonia through electrochemically induced SRN1, direct C-C bond formation was observed at the 2-position of imidazole and benzimidazole.
