Title : The Concept and Implications of Low Carbon Green Growth
Abstract:
Contemporary era is defined as a risky society in terms of environmental problems. As we know, the United Nations has adopted two important agendas towards the present and future socioeconomic development at a global level in relation to environmental problems since 1992 when Rio Summit was held. One is the ideology of sustainable development, and the other one is that climate change is placed at the top among various environmental problems in terms of its impact on nature and human society. The former is green growth toward the co-existence between nature and humans, while the latter is toward reducing carbon emission which is the human-induced contributor to climate change. The former and the latter may be collectively represented as Low-Carbon Green Growth which is the current and future ideology and practice of socioeconomic development. In this context, this paper aims at defining the concept of low-carbon green growth, and examining its implications.
The presentation will be composed of five parts as below.
Part 1: The mechanism of nature being polluted/Destroyed will be explained. This is an explanation regarding the background of why the ideology and practice of low-carbon green growth emerged.
Part 2: The concept of low-carbon will be explained. The explanation will be done comparing similar concepts such as carbon-neutral, carbon-zero, and climate neutrality. In addition, <how to approach low-carbon, carbon-neutral, carbon-zero> will be explained.
Part 3: The concept of green growth will be explained. The explanation will be based on the concept defined by OECD, United Nations, and academia, and then the concepts will be synthesized.
Part 4: The implications of low-carbon green growth will be examined in terms of conceptual and practical aspect. The conceptual implications will be examined in relation to the concept of sustainable development and the impact of climate change, because as explained above, sustainable development and climate change are the sources from which the ideology of low-carbon green growth was promoted. Meanwhile, the practical implications will be examined in relation to the strategies being launched for achieving low-carbon green growth.
Part 5: A wide range of strategies are required for achieving low-carbon green growth. As the concluding remark, <what capacity should be built> will be discussed in relation to the strategies to be launched.
