Title : Synthesis and evaluation of styrene-based polymeric resin for glycerol acetalization: Effect of crosslinkers on swelling and catalytic performance

Abstract:

This study presents the synthesis and evaluation of a styrene-based polymeric resin crosslinked with 2% TMPTA, compared to the commercial resin Amberlyst 15, which contains 20% of DVB as a crosslinker. The resins were assessed for their catalytic performance in the glycerol acetalization reaction. The results demonstrated that the resin crosslinked with 2% TMPTA exhibited superior catalytic performance, with faster conversion reaction rate. The lower crosslinking percentage in the TMPTA resin enhanced the accessibility to catalytic sites, leading to better performance compared to the commercial resin. Additionally, swelling index analyses were conducted, which corroborated the observed results in the reaction, highlighting the impact of crosslinker concentration on resin behavior. This study emphasizes the importance of crosslinker selection and its concentration in optimizing resin performance, especially in catalytic processes such as glycerol acetalization.
